The emerging talent of Mackenzie Best has shone through once again as he has been selected to take part in the U17 Boys National Championships, in Mackay in the first weeks of October. Mackenzie will represent PACC and Western Districts on the Eyre peninsula as part of the Northern Territory squad. The Best family will enjoy yet another cricket journey, this time with the chance to see Mackenzie play under lights!

Port Adelaide Cricket Club heldour our AGM on Wednesday 11th July at the wonderful facilities of the Alberton Hotel. The meeting was a success with a number of new committee members coming on board. We welcome Robin Chapman, Lisa Mihaljevic and Blake Fry to the committee.

We would also like to thank our retiring members in Col Murray, Brian Elliot, Col Umpherston, Jim Case and David Brown. A special thanks also goes to to our retiring Treasurer, Bev Severin.

We are also very pleased that we have 2 new life members who were nominated and approved at the AGM. Congratulations to Dean Biggs and David Mundy.

The main ground in SACA's new $10 million community sporting pavilion at Narnungga (Park 25) has been officially named after Port Adelaide, South Australian and Australian cricket legend

Karen Rolton. Port Adelaide cricketers and supporters have welcomed this fitting acknowledgement to a great of the sport.

Karen, who was recently inducted into the Ausralian Cricket Hall of Fame, saw this latest accolade as "a fantastic honour". We are all sure any Port player who walks out on to this oval will do so with that little extra pride.

Karen also lends her name to Port's junior development squad, the Freeman Rolton academy, which develops all juniors, let's hope that some can follow in Karen' saugust footsteps!

Amanda Wellington has been selected for Australia’s one-day and T20 tour of India starting on March 12. This will be her first tour with the national team on the sub-continent and has sought out the knowledge of Strikers hot talent Rashid Khan.

Captain Nick Benton starred with bat and then ball at University Oval, his 75 from 89 balls the top score in Port’s total of 8/222 before he took 3/33 from 8.4 overs that ended University.

Benton and Weeks combine to finish Uni off, and start the celebrations!

Weeks said of Benton's man of the match performance "In my opinion he’s the best all-round player in Premier Cricket because of his ability to stand up with both bat and ball."

Josh and the SAPSASA team won the Ricky Ponting Shield and became National 12 and under boys champions beating Queensland in a close final. Queensland batted first and made a competitive 103 off their 40 overs. In reply South Australia made the target with 4 balls to spare with Josh Bevan (27) and Ethan Trewartha (27*) sharing the games biggest partnership of 45 with both hitting the top score of the match of 27.

The South Australian boys went through the tournament undefeated, having tied against NSW and beating Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland. Josh also top scored in the games against Victoria and Western Australia.

Port's Men's first grade side welcome back the in-form Josh Hoffman. Josh brings his outstanding form from the Redbacks League back to Port Reserve after time away at Woodville. His all-round game will further add to the A Grade as they aim to improve on good results in 2016/17. We might even hear a little AC/DC when he's out there in the field!

Irish international soccer and cricket player, Mary Waldron returns to Port Adelaide for the 2017/18 season. Mary starred with the bat and behind the stumps in 2016/17 and is expected to bring her professionalism and enthusiasm back to the team again this year. Mary managed a busy schedule in 16/17 which included representing Port in all formats in the Women's comp, players a few games in the Men's third grade team, and umpiring in various grades in Men's competition. Fantastic news for all Port Adelaide Cricket Club players, coaches, officials, volunteers, sponsors & supporters.

On Monday February 6th the SACA Executive advised Port Adelaide (PACC), West Torrens (WTDCC) and the Grade Cricket Committee (GCC) that neither club WILL NOT BE DEMOTED and there WILL NOT BE A FORCED MERGER of the two clubs.

This is great news and is a fitting outcome for the great work, effort and time put in both on field by players and off field by administrators/supporters throughout the past 20 months. Congratulations and well done to all who contributed towards this outcome.

The SACA Executive have put a proposal on the Grade Cricket Committee agenda for the establishment of a State U19 team to be the 14th team in the Premier First Grade competition. SACA have asked the GCC/Clubs through the GCC to provide views and comments through a consultative process. They have also proposed some changes to PACC Junior Teams for the GCC and PACC feedback and consultation.

More details on both of these will be forthcoming soon and we, as a club, will need to consider the proposals further.

A special thank you to all our coaches and players who have continued to perform on the field over the past 20 months with so much uncertainty of our future. Let’s be proud of our accomplishments and continue moving forward to build our club.

Please see below a Media Release published today by SACA confirming PACC will continue in Premier Cricket 1st Grade for 2016/2017:

"The South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) can today confirm that the West Torrens District Cricket Club and Port Adelaide Cricket Club have been granted additional time to work through merger discussions.

As a result, both clubs have been advised that they will compete in the West End Premier Cricket 1st Grade competition for the 2016/17 season.

The SACA Board had previously communicated to the two clubs that its preferred position is for the two clubs to merge.

It became apparent to the Board that the process was taking longer than anticipated, largely due to the highly complex and emotional nature of the situation,” said SACA Chief Executive, Keith Bradshaw.

We believe it is only fair that both clubs are given the time to work through this process."

SACA reconfirmed that additional funding will be provided towards infrastructure expenditure for facilities for a new entity, with additional funding towards on-costs such as legal fees, communications and marketing to facilitate a merger."
