Men's News
The season ahead for the Port Adelaide cricket club senior men's squad looks promising, with the squad expecting to win each match they walk out onto the field and be amongst the finals action across all grades and competitions. Playing depth has been boosted by some key recruits, at the top levels Brett Jackson (batting allrounder) has made his way from Sydney grade cricket to showcase his undoubted talents and put his name up for higher honours, James Vandeleur will add further bite to an already strong attack with his pace bowling and will add some steel to the lower order, and Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy/Durham first class regular Scott Borthwick will add some much-needed variety to the attack with his accurate leg spin and averaged 25 with the bat in first class cricket last season. Jack Flynn (ex Kensington) also is coming down from the NT after an excellent season there which saw him make the NT Strike rep team. Ben Parish was the only major loss over the off-season with work commitments.
Matthew Weeks will be looking for a big season both with his own form and as sole skipper, while names such as Joel Davies, Tim Ludeman (both in the State squad this season), Adam Dilley, Ben Walters, Ryan Sawade and Trav Buckley who all performed at different levels last season mean there is no shortage of talent in the top grade. Just as importantly, there is plenty of depth and promising junior talent throughout the grades, which will be vital as the season progresses and factors such as rep honours come into play.
There have been several changes and additions to the coaching staff, with every facet of the game covered in terms of specialist coaching, which is a rarity at grade level. The pre-season trial form was impressive with 5 wins from 6 matches across the grades and the A grade started with a solid win against TTG in the 20/20 opener last weekend.
We are looking forward to facing the challenges ahead and making our own luck!
