Powerade Player of the Round
Magpies skipper announced as Powerade winner for Round 2
Thanks to his match winning 150 runs, Port Adelaide Under 14 Red captain
Jacob Fisher has been named as the ‘Powerade Junior Cricketer of the Round’
for Round 2.
In the Magpies’ Under 14 Red match against Southern District at John
Morphett Primary School, Jacob opened the batting and hit 24 boundaries
in his 200 ball stay at the crease. The Magpies eventually posted a total of
279, with Jacob being the last wicket to fall.
As ‘keeper, Jacob also took two catches in a fine display behind the stumps. The left hand batter began in Port Adelaide’s Ray Sutton squad, and is currently a member of SACA’s Under 14 development squad. As a result of his performance, Jacob has automatically been selected in the Powerade Junior Team of the Year and will be awarded a 'Powerade Junior Cricketer of the Round' pack at the Port Adelaide Cricket Club over the next couple of weeks. Jacob will also be invited to attend a function at the Adelaide Oval at the end of the season, acknowledging him, along with other nominees throughout the year, for their outstanding performances over the season.
Outstanding Performance from Port Adelaide’s Mitchal Evans
A maiden century and tight bowling figures by Port Adelaide opener Mitchal
Evans and three wickets in four balls by Southern Districts’ Lauren Goldsmith
has secured both players a ‘Powerade Junior Cricketer of the Round’ award.
Mitchal won the award for Round 3 of the Powerade Junior Boys Competition,
whilst Lauren won the award for Round 1 of the Powerade Youth Cup Girls
Competition. Winning the toss and electing to bat in the Under 14 White
game between Port Adelaide and West Torrens, Mitchal opened the batting
for the Magpies and combining with captain Ben Merret, shared a 237 run
partnership. Mitchal scored 113 runs from 180 deliveries, which included twelve 4s and five 6s
(whilst special mention must also be made to Ben who scored 144). Mitchal was eventually
dismissed having guided the Magpies to a total of 2/296.
In the field, Mitchal came on to bowl late in the game taking 3/15 from 3 overs, as well as a catch
to help the Magpies to a deserving win. West Torrens was finally dismissed for 143. This was Mitchal’s third game of Grade Cricket, with his first two matches yielding 54 and 56 runs respectively. Mitchal now joins fellow Port Adelaide junior Jacob Fisher, as well as the Blues Alex Gregory, in the Powerade Junior Team of the Year.
